As a 10th grade student, I have a wonderful, unique opportunity in front of me! Since February, 2014, I've found a new sport that I've fallen in love with becasue it involves speed, and well...I LOVE SPEED!
While watching the Olympics, my mom helped me sign up for the USABS online. I had read about skeleton and bobsledding on their site and learned that the critical elements for their athletes were strength and speed, two things I knew I had.
A couple months later I was heading off to Lake Placid for a youth camp and combine test. During the combine test I pushed myself to be the best I could be. Not only was I competing against myself, but also because I was competing with others, some of whom were adults and much larger than I was!
After the training was over my coach Don Hass invited me back in the winter to slide on the ice. And this is where things go from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye, both literally and figuratively.
Not only was I invited back to Lake Placid for sliding, but I was also invited to train and compete in an effort to win a slot representing Team USA for the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games. It's amazing how quickly your life can change in such a short amount of time!
